Flu season is upon us, there is no denying it! It’s that time of year where a cough and sneeze can send me into deep panic. I’ve been on the fence for years about the flu shot. Do I? Don’t I? It’s kind of crazy that it depends on who you ask. In my current CBD and flu season immune-boosting preparation routine, I stick to the basics. 

Here’s a walk through of my immune system boosting routine to ward off colds, flu and other ailments. In my CBD consumption diary you can see what a typical week looks like for me during this time of year.

CBD is My Go To For Immune System Support

One thing is for sure, CBD helps keep my immune system strong AF. Back when I was on a lot of pharmaceuticals, my immune system was compromised because the medications were affecting my white blood cell count. 

This made me prone to catching everything including the dreaded flu. After two bad flu seasons where I was completely taken out for two weeks at a time, I developed a serious CBD and flu season regimen. I am happy to report *knocks on wood* that I have been able to avoid getting the flu for the last two years. 

In regards to using CBD in this setting, one of the biggest things I think people miss when it comes to this time of year is that you have to up your daily dose. In the words of Drake “ALL THE WAY UP!”

1. Serious Hand Washing – This step is surprising always overlooked. If you are out in public, be mindful of regularly washing scrubbing your hands. I try to go by the 45 second rule and get everything from palms to fingernails.

Sunday November 3, 2019 – A Stay At Home Day
6:15am

My little cloud son, Reggie wakes me up early. After I feed him I dose my coffee with our 1000mg Bäre Tincture. One dropper is 33mg of CBD. I also pop in my vitamin gummies as I start my Sunday. 

3:30pm 

I did chores all day so I am feeling pretty gross and in need of a hot shower! I jump in the shower and use my Soaked shower gel. The rich lather and bright tangie scent invigorate me for the rest of the afternoon. I’m feeling refreshed!

Conclusion

I write this series to help people understand how I consume CBD. While we see lots of information about CBD in general or what pain points to use CBD for, most people (even daily users) are still trying to figure out how much CBD to take.

2018 marked the first year of legal cannabis in California. Despite the new regulations, we survived. Between compliant child resistant packaging changes, to the strictest lab requirements to date on testing, we faced every hurdle imaginable. We were blessed to close our Series A funding with Connected Cannabis Co. We wouldn’t be on the shelves without the support of Connected and Sol Distro.

We have had so many OMG moments this year for our beloved products and brand. From the cover of Ember Mag with Lake Bell, to our CEO & Founders moment on the cover of Dope Magazine we have remained shooketh by the media’s passion for our products. From WWD to Vogue, CBD beauty has become mainstream. We felt the great shift when we were selected as a GOOP! Favorite .  This month we achieved another huge milestone for our brand with our first ever billboard with Blum.

 

 

Leaders Lead

It may surprise some, but banking to sell CBD online only became reliable in the last year. Access to banking is still a controversial issue in cannabis and CBD. In March of 2018, our Kush Queen Shop was shut down along with hundreds of other CBD merchants. Luckily, we were able to get the shop re-launched just in time for 4/20. In July, we launched Defynt Skincare with the release of The Anti-Serum our nanotechnology skin serum. We loved being a part of the conversation around the science of CBD. Kush Queen remains one of the only brand currently selling in the regulated California cannabis market and online with Hemp CBD products.

 

Storytelling

One of the greatest things about Kush Queen is using our platform to help worthy causes and share incredible stories. We believe in cannabis not just a plant ,but as a tool for social change. When you think of summer foods, what comes to mind? Grilled foods, crisp tropical fruits, ice cream?

For me, when hot weather rolls around, I get intense cravings for salads. Cold, crunchy, healthy salads that make you feel fresh and light. There’s something always so delightful about raw veggies in the summertime. However, I also know that salads can get boring sometimes, especially if you eat them all the time. 

Today, I’m going to share three amazing vinaigrette/oil-based recipes made with Kush Queen CBD oil, and show you what types of salads I used them for.

Chimichurri for Steak Salad

Chimichurri is a raw, parsley-based sauce originally from Argentina. It’s overwhelmingly fresh and sharp and works so well when paired with red meat, citrus, and salt. And it’s actually pretty easy to make, as long as you have access to a blender! 

I just tossed all of my ingredients, minus the CBD oil, in a small blender, and pulsed until it reached a nicely chopped, semi-emulsified consistency. You may have to add more olive oil as you go. I also definitely added a little too much garlic the first time around, which hits you right in the face when it’s raw. But hey, it’ll definitely keep you healthy.

I added two full droppers of CBD after my other ingredients were blended.

I used my chimichurri to top a giant steak salad, packed with raw vegetables and even an elote-style corn salad. My sauce was thick and potent and made every bite delicious.

Easy Lemon Vinaigrette for Greek Salad

This vinaigrette is the simplest of the three because there’s no blender involved, and honestly, you don’t even have to pre-mix the ingredients if you’re feeling bold. 

It’s just olive oil, CBD oil, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. That’s really it! It’s the perfect base vinaigrette to add to, with ingredients like cayenne pepper, cilantro, etc. I kept it to the basics for this batch but don’t be afraid to experiment.

I used my lemon vinaigrette for a fresh and summery Greek salad. Crunchy cucumber, peppery onion, sweet tomato, and salty feta are all it takes to toss together something delicious. I also recommend adding avocado or olives for an extra kick. Well, now I know what I’m making for dinner later.

Raspberry-Orange-Poppy Vinaigrette for Peach and Goat Cheese Salad

I absolutely love fruit-heavy vinaigrettes. They add sweetness and tartness with more depth than lemon juice alone. This pretty-in-pink dressing gets its flavors from orange juice, orange zest, and fresh raspberries. The poppy seeds are optional if they’re not your jam, but they’re mostly tasteless and you get the added benefit of fiber and vitamins. 

I throw my fruits, juice and half of the olive oil in the blender first, leaving out the CBD and poppy seeds.

Strain the mixture through a sieve to remove all the raspberry seeds. It doesn’t add a very nice texture if you leave them in, in my opinion.

Add the remaining olive oil, the CBD oil, and the poppy seeds and whisk well. Sometimes raspberries and oranges end up on the tart or sour side. If you find your dressing is a bit more mouth-puckering than you’d like, it’s super easy to add a little bit of honey or sugar until you’re happy with the sweetness. And that’s it! 

I used my vinaigrette for a fruity, vibrant salad. I topped peppery arugula with fresh peach, tangy goat cheese, and red onion. I made a decently large batch of dressing, and it’s great for different types of salads—try it with grilled chicken or even seasoned tofu, if you’re vegetarian!
